WRS in-person ringing resumed in April 2021 after being halted for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we currently have a somewhat variable schedule as well as some COVID-related requirements that people ringing with us must meet. Therefore, visiting ringers wishing to ring with us MUST contact us (email info@washingtonringingsociety.org) ahead of time to determine whether this will be possible.
  1. Interest, enthusiasm, patience, and time: It takes 6-12 months to really learn just the basics!

  2. Attendance at a Washington Ringing Society (WRS) Ringing Course: This course involves two or three day-long sessions of intensive hands-on instruction in the basics of "handling" -- individual bell control – and some ringing theory. We hold a course once or twice a year on two or three consecutive Saturdays, 10am –4pm.

  3. Thereafter, regular attendance at 1, or preferably 2, weekly WRS practices, where you’ll get additional hands-on practice, plus learning through observation. WRS practices are held: Cathedral Tuesdays 7pm-9pm [6pm start for recent class attendees] Old Post Office Thursdays 7pm-9pm
